PERSONAL DATA

 -    Born in November 1951.

 -  Studied in the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1971-1976. Obtained B.A. (Honours)  and M. A. degree in Economics.

-      Joined Bangladesh Foreign Service in March 1979 as a career diplomat.

-      Awarded Asia Foundation Fellowship and did Post-graduation M.A. in  Law and Diplomacy from the  Fletcher  School, Tuffs University,  Boston, USA, 1985-86.

 APPOINTMENTS/ASSIGNMENTS HELD :

 1980-85 :  Desk Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Appointments included Foreign  Minister's Office, Protocol, SEA Wing, Organization & Management desk.

1987-90 :  First Secretary in the Bangladesh High Commission Colombo.

1990-94 :  First Secretary/Counsellor in the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, KSA.

1994-95 : Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Appointments included Staff Officer to the Foreign Minister, Director for South East Asia and  Far East, Consular, Legal & Maritime Wings.

1996- mid 2000:  Counsellor and later Minister (Political) in the Bangladesh High Commission, London

2000-02 : Consul General of Bangladesh in Hong Kong.

2002-04:  Director-General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. Appointments included Director-General, Europe Wing and Director-General (Administration).

March 2004 to July 2007 :  High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia.

08 August 2007 :  Assumed duties as High Commissioner to UK.

 FOREIGN TRAINING ATTENDED :

1982 :     55th Commercial Policy Course at GATT, Geneva.

1993 :     Arabic Language Course at the Al-Imam University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

1998 :     Commonwealth Induction Course offered by the Commonwealth Secretariat, London.

1999 :     Executive Course on Security Studies at the Asia-Pacific Centre on Security Studies (APCSS) in Hawaii, USA.

2002 :     Senior Executive Course at the Near East &  South Asia (NESA) Centre, National Defense  University, Washington D.C. 

FAMILY STATUS :

                  Married and have two sons - Shahryar A. Ahmed (22) and Shamir K. Ahmed (18).
