Welcome Message

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the updated website of the Bangladesh High Commission, London. The site is designed to act as a conduit to the basic information on Bangladesh including basic facts and figures of the country, society and the economy and the services offered by the High Commission primarily focusing on the consular information.

As you are aware, the age-old dream of Bangladesh was realized in 1971 through a blood-soaked War of Liberation. The nation recalls with gratitude the unflinching leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman towards attainment of nationhood. The dreams and aspirations of the martyrs and the freedom fighters have been reflected in the independent country in many ways though there is no room for complacency. Bangladesh, as a nation, has made great strides in achieving success in several sectors such as increasing food production, sustainable economic growth underpinned by spectacular growth in export and remittance, a diminishing dependency on foreign aid, significant success in human and social development, empowerment of women and growth of a vibrant civil society. As a leading contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, Bangladesh's proactive role in promoting global peace and stability as well as the leadership in poverty alleviation and micro-credit entrepreneurship has been well recognised by the International community. This positive trend is sure to continue in the years ahead towards attaining a modern, medium-income and technology-based country by 2021 envisioned by Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh - Britain bilateral relations have also made a big leap forward beyond the known orbit of historical links and burgeoned into a strong trade and investment partnership. The presence of a huge Bangladeshi diaspora in UK is a permanent link between the two countries. Britain is today the largest foreign investor, the largest bilateral development partner and the third largest export destination for Bangladeshi products. Bilateral economic indicators between the two countries are growing at a remarkable rate.

Please visit the website to know the people, culture, ethos and aspirations of Bangladesh closely. It will also lead you to a host of useful public and private sector links with focus on trade and investment opportunities, on news and media, tours and travels etc. which, we hope, will facilitate the growing nexus between visitors of this website and the people & the institutions of Bangladesh. You may be a curious visitor of this website today but, in you, we see of tourist and potential investor of tomorrow.
